This Side of Heaven (The Belonging Co)

This Side of Heaven expresses heartfelt worship through brokenness, costly sacrifice, and unshakable hope before breakthrough. With themes of faith, surrender, and eternal longing, the song beautifully bridges earthly struggle and heavenly glory.

VERSE 1
It’s an honest heart I bring
When my faith is just a seed
This sacrifice of worship I’ll bring
Still You’ll find me on my knees
From this alabaster box
I’ll waste every single drop
When it is costly, I’ll give You all of me
Right here at Your feet I fall

CHORUS
Holy, my heart will sing, Holy
With praise on the earth that the angels don’t know
It’s desperate, it’s broken, and searching for hope
Still I’ll sing Holy on this side of Heaven

VERSE 2
It’s a choice I’m gonna make
It’s the narrow road I’ll take
Before the breakthrough, before the dawn
In the midnight hour I’ll say

BRIDGE
One day we’ll be dancing on streets made of gold
We’ll join with the angels surrounding Your throne
No sickness, no suffering, our tears will be gone
But on this side of Heaven we’ll lift up our song

Hope Before the Breakthrough

“When my faith is just a seed” reflects a humble and honest admission of small, developing faith. Scripture affirms that even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20), showing that God honors sincere belief, no matter how small.

“From this alabaster box, I’ll waste every single drop” echoes Mary’s act of pouring expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet (John 12:3). It signifies costly, wholehearted worship—giving Jesus our best without reservation.

“Before the breakthrough, before the dawn” expresses faith and worship before deliverance. Habakkuk 3:17–18 models this kind of praise, declaring trust and rejoicing in God even when circumstances are bleak.

“We’ll join with the angels surrounding Your throne” points to the eternal worship in heaven described in Revelation 5:11–13, where all creation joins in glorifying God.

The song’s central theme is worship from a broken and longing heart on earth, contrasted with the perfect worship in heaven. Its theology embraces the “already but not yet” tension of Christian life—hope amid hardship, worship amid waiting. The song aligns with Scripture, encouraging sacrificial worship (Romans 12:1), perseverance (James 1:12), and eternal hope (Revelation 21:4), with no contradictions present.
