The Dove (The Belonging Co)

The Dove invites worshippers into deeper awareness of the Holy Spirit’s presence, portraying Him as the Helper, the Resting Dove, and the Spirit of Renewal. Drawing from biblical images of creation, Christ’s redemptive work, and the indwelling Spirit, the song emphasizes divine nearness and spiritual dependence.

VERSE 1
God was there at the beginning, His Spirit brooding like a dove
Spoke the earth into existence, formed creation that He loved
Man was born of perfect image, made to be a friend of God
Meant to dwell within His presence, yeah it’s where we all belong

CHORUS
Holy Spirit, all we need is more of you
We want more of You

VERSE 2
When sin had spoiled creation the creator sent a flood
On the cusp of new beginning He again released the dove
And after all the searching it found a place to land
On Christ the perfect son who would redeem it all again
Looking for the branches it landed on the vine
The one for our redemption who would bridge eternal life

CHORUS
Holy Spirit, the truth the living water
All we need is more of you, we want more of you
Holy Spirit, the helper and the healer
All we need is more of you, we want more of you

BRIDGE
Let this be an upper room, light the flame we burn for You
Holy Holy Holy Spirit
Like a mighty rushing wind, pour Your spirit out again
Holy Holy Holy Spirit

VERSE 3
It is not by my own earning, to have the helper at my side
The gift was fully purchased when the lamb was crucified
So now freely I can ask Him for His blood has washed me clean
Let the dove of heaven rest upon the Christ in me

TAG
Let the dove of heaven rest upon the Christ in me
Holy Spirit come and rest upon the Christ in me

Creation and the Spirit’s Presence

“God was there at the beginning” affirms Genesis 1:1-2, where God’s Spirit hovers over the waters before creation. The phrase “His Spirit brooding like a dove” draws imagery from both Genesis and the baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:16), connecting the Holy Spirit’s creative and redemptive work.

“When sin had spoiled creation the creator sent a flood” aligns with Genesis 6–8, describing the judgment and mercy of God through Noah’s ark. “He again released the dove” reflects the dove Noah sent as a sign of restored peace, pointing to the Spirit bringing renewal through Christ.

“On Christ the perfect son who would redeem it all again” refers to Jesus as the spotless Lamb who redeems fallen creation (John 1:29, Colossians 1:19–20). “The vine” connects to John 15:5, where Jesus calls Himself the true vine, inviting believers into union with Him.
