Come Alive is a worship song inviting the weary to lay down burdens, find mercy in Jesus, and come alive in His presence. With themes of surrender, grace, and spiritual awakening, the lyrics declare the open arms of Christ and the power of His love.
VERSE 1
Lay down your burdens, lay down your pride
Rest in the mercy that Jesus provides
Come all ye weary, broken inside
Lay down your burdens, lay down your life
CHORUS
Come and lift your voice
At the throne of grace, we come alive
Let the lost rejoice
In Jesus Christ, His arms are open wide
Let these mountains shake
From the sound of voices multiplied
As our souls awake
In Jesus Christ, His arms are open wide
BRIDGE
In this moment, in Your presence
Overwhelmed by love, we come alive
We cry holy, King of Glory
Jesus Christ, Your Name be lifted high
Finding Rest in Christ
“Lay down your burdens, lay down your pride” reflects Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11:28-29, where He calls the weary to come and find rest in Him.
Pride often keeps people from surrendering to God, but James 4:6 reminds us that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Surrendering both burdens and pride is essential for spiritual renewal.
“Rest in the mercy that Jesus provides” highlights the grace found in Christ, as expressed in Titus 3:5, which says we are saved “not because of works… but according to His own mercy.” This mercy becomes the basis for rest and renewal.
“Come and lift your voice at the throne of grace” echoes Hebrews 4:16, which urges believers to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence” to receive help. Worship is the response to God’s open invitation.
“We come alive” in Christ refers to spiritual awakening, supported by Ephesians 2:4-5, which says that though we were dead in sin, God “made us alive with Christ.”
